Motivational Monday

There will always be people who tell you that you cannot do it, that you are not good enough, not as talented as others or simply doing it wrong. Do not listen to them, you are great the way you are! Sure, some people may give you advice and if you have the impression that they support you in a nice way and give you constructive feedback, listen to their point and talk to them. However, if you realize that they want to see you fail, that they do not support you at all and only drag you down - distance yourself from them. You do not need this kind of negativity in your life. Removing those people from your life will make room for those who truly belive in you, encourage you and get through everything together with you,  no matter how hard it will be. Hard times always reveal true friends. Always believe in yourself and in your dreams. Just give it a try.

Everybody has a time when they do not feel good, when they do not know how to move on. With the right people in your life it will all work out in the end. Losing someone who made you feel so special and happy always hurts, but it can also lead you to something better. If they only make you feel bad about yourself or not appreciated enough - the right people will come into your life and stay!

Current Favorites (Fall 2016)

Hello my dears, how are you?

Fall is just around the corner. Therefore, I have decided to show you some of my favorites regarding this season. The season of coziness. Speding a whole day cuddled up, reading books or watching series or a movie.

#1 Favorite Tea
The season of fall = the season of tea. My favorite is roiboos, especially with vanilla. In addition, I also enjoy a cup of apple tea (recommendations are Turkish apple, it contains fig, as well as apple tea with a hint of vanilla). Some companies also sell specials regarding winter, some of those flavors are cinnamon, marzipan, orange or almond biscuit (Spekulatius in German). Do not be afraid to try something new, go for whatever suits you best!

#2 Series
One of my absolute all time favorites is "The Vampire Diaries". It is not only a great one, no, it also fits perfectly to the darker side of fall, the mystic side as it is in Halloween. Another one I stumbled across recently is "Desperate Housewives" -  such a great mixture of drama and comedy. It is very catching and interesting and, just as TVD, a continuing series, so all the episodes create one whole story.

#3 Calendar
As one year is coming to an end. another one is just about to begin. I do not know what about you, but, personally, I like to write down all of my dates on paper. Some are saved electronically as well on my tablet or cellphone, but I am a huge fan of writing it down and having it in a real book. Later, when you take an old calendar in your hands and get through it, all the memories come back; and it is way more personal than only some text passages on your electronic device.
Until this time, I always had a calendar in which every day has its own page. It is very useful if you have lots of things to do or if you like to write down quotes or other inspiring quotes. However, on the other hand, these ones are actually very heavy. Therefore, I have decided to try something new: After thinking about it for a while and having a look at several options, I chose a Moleskine in the "Weekly Notebook Diary" edition. If you take a look inside, you will see this structure: On the left side, there are all the days of the week listed below each other; whereas on the right side there is space for all of your notes or to do lists or whatever you like to keep there. As far as I am already using it, I am very content. Whenever I want to write something down that I need more space for, for example quotes or inspiring texts, I use a separate notebook and this works very well for me.

#4 Books
I have always loved literature and reading. From my point of view, there is nothing better than cuddling up reading your favorite novel when it is cold and grey outside. Here are some recommendations: For entertainment, I enjoy reading Jojo Moyes' novels. Some I like a lot are "The Girl You Left Behind", "The Ship of Brides" as well as "Me Before You". (Recensions on two of them can be found here and here ).
What I also enjoy is reading books about philosophy. It is such an interesting and inspiring topic! Besides, I also like Shakespeare. The language is absolutely beautiful. In some app stores, you can download some of his play for free (e.g. "Romeo and Juliet", "Hamlet" or "Othello"). So just give it a try, it will be worth it!

What are your current favorites?

Jojo Moyes: The Ship of Brides

Recension: "The Ship of Brides" by Jojo Moyes

Cover

Title: The Ship of Brides
Author: Moyes, Jojo
Publication: 2008
Publisher: Hodder Paperbacks

"The only people who still have all the answers are those who have never been faced with the questions.”

Cover Text:
"Australia, 1946. 650 brides are departing for England to meet the men they married in wartime. But instead of the luxury liner they were expecting, they find themselves aboard an aircraft carrier, alongside a thousand men.

On the sun-baked decks, old loves and past promises become distant memories, and tensions are stretched to the limit as brides and husbands change their minds. And for Frances Mackenzie, one bride in particular, it soon becomes clear that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination."

The novel tells the journey of four Australian women crossing the ocean in order to get to their American husbands. Each one a different character, they face problems, but also learn to stick together and to get along with difficult situations. They have to adjust themselves with the uncomfortable ship, with living together at very tiny space and much more.
Frances wants nothing more than to escape her past. However, one day she cannot hide it anymore, the secret she carried with her thorughout the whole journey. Will it destroy everything she fought for? Margaret cannot wait to be together with her husband, but also misses her family back home. Having a deep heart, she always tries to solve the occuring conflicts and takes care of everybody. Avice, coming from a rich family, struggles to adjust herself to the new circumstances on board. Having her own prospect on how things should be, she often gets into conflicts with the other brides, especially with Jean. Jean, the youngest of the four brides the story is focused on, is kind of simple-hearted and, therefore, does not seem to be as sophisticated as Avice, for example, which leads to a stressed relationship between the two young woman.

The novel has autobiographical traits due to the fact that the author's grandma was one of the original brides who went on the long journey hoping for a better life. Her grandmother's journey is the basis for the fictional story. Moyes has written a wonderful book full of emotions that makes you feel like you are on board with the brides. Each chapter focusing on a different character perspective makes it very lively, touching and you definitley get into a relation with the characters and understand their hopes and fears. You feel with the brides and while reading you get the impression of the limitedness and the impact it has on the woman who have no minute for being on their own. A great story with realistic characters, interesting and stunning developments that makes you feel like you travelled back in time to the 1940s. I really enjoyed reading it and I am looking forward to reading the next books written by Jojo Moyes.

What is your favorite novel by Jojo Moyes?

A blogpost on Moyes' novel "Me Before You" can be found on my blog as well.

The Only People You Need in Life are the Ones that Need You in Theirs

Sometimes, you have to realize that not everyone loves the same way you do. Not everyone shares the same values nor has the same standards on how a relationship should work. Of course it hurts when you find out that you do not mean as much to someone as you thought you did. It is totally fine to cry, to spend afternoons lying in bed listening to sad music and eating ice cream; everyone gets to a point where they cannot do it anymore. However, after a certain amount of time, you have to get up and live again. It might be hard, because all you want to do is to be alone and not see anyone. Fight against the urge to go back home. Go outside, spend time with good friends who encourage you, believe in you, make you happy. You deserve to live your life the way you want it to be. Therefore, focus on the people who contribute to your happiness, moments that make you smile, hobbies that relax you etc. There is so much more outside our cages; the world is such a huge place - you will find the right one when the time has come!

Meanwhile, live your life, smile, give each day the chance to be the best one you have ever experienced. Be grateful for the lessons - you were hurt due to realizing that some people do not care as much as you do. However, it is much better to see it now than living a scheme. You were given the chance to find someone better, someone who values you, supports you, sees you as the wonderful person you are. Say "thanks life for showing me what I do not want" and move on. It is hard, it is a long process and there will be moments of doubt. Never give up, do not look back - only to see how far you have come and be proud of yourself.

Have a great week!

How I Study & Tips for you

How are you, my dears? I think you all know this situation. You have to study for an exam, but you are not in the mood or you do not know how to start or to work properly. Today, I want to give you some tips on how I study.

#1 Your Workspace
This may sound too obvious or unnecessary, but a cleaned workspace with lots of light is essential for good study results.

#2 The Time
Starting to study at 10pm will not bring good results, because you are so tired and your motivation is on a really low level. Instead, studying in the afternoon is way better, because you are fit and you can spent the evening doing something relaxing and fun. I also recommend to start early enough, at least at the weekend before your test - well, that is actually a bit late, but better than starting the night before.

#3 Motivation
Very important! Even if you do not like the subject - set yourself a goal. This might be getting a better grade or simply really understanding the content. Also getting a good graduation grade can be the thing you want to achieve. With a goal you have something you can work on, something that will motivate you.

#4 Structure
First of all, I write down the topics I have to study. Then I start to write summerys - in keywords. Even if I write down exactly the same as in my notes - when I start using a highlighter the sheet will look very different! ;) Further, writing helps you memorizing the contents you write more. When I am done with writing it all down, I read it out. I kind of do some small presentations to myself to remember everything better. The evening before the exam, I just read everything, but I usually do not add something new. If you did not study it until this time, you would not succeed in starting now.

#5 The Exam
During the exam, I recommend to stay calm. Read the tasks carefully and underline what you have to do. Bring something to drink and check out if you have all your things with you, like pens, paper, pencils etc. When you do not now what to write immediately - relax! Think again and start to write - it might come into your mind when you deal with the topic.

#6 After the Exam
Relax - you made it! Be happy, proud of yourself, and do what you love to do. Spend the day by doing fun things and forget about what you could have written or what your mistakes might be.

I hope, this little "guideline" helped a bit.

What are your tips for studying?

"You only get one life. It's actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.” * Jojo Moyes: Me Before You

How are you, my dears?

Do you know the novel "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes? I just finished reading it and all I can say is that I absolutely enjoyed reading it and really love it.

cover // penguin books

27-year-old Louisa Clark looks for a new job after the cafe she was working in has been closed. Unable to find a kind of work that suits her, she gets the offer to work at a private household as a companion for the 35-year-old quadriplegic Will Traynor for 6 months. Will had an accident two years ago that changed his whole life. He does not like and does not want his new life. During the time they spend together, they influence each other and develop feelings toward the other...

"You only get one life. It's actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.”

Reading this book was wonderful. It is so moving and catching and you definitely feel with the characters. It will make you cry. Gorgeous, a book about the beauty of life, which makes you think more about yourself and the way you live your life. One of the best books I have ever read.

"A small-life-big-dreams weepie that'll have you snivelling ecstatically into your cocoa." Daily Mail
"What a wonderful, thoughtful and moving book.  I was riveted all the way through.  Absolutely loved it." Sophie Kinsella
"This truly beautiful story made us laugh, smile and sob like a baby - you simply have to read it." Closer

"Compelling, moving and absorbing. It's also a real weepie." Daily Express

Cute Sunday Things #2

How are you, my dears? Hope, you all enjoy your weekend and start into the new week full of energy. It is time to share some cute things with you. (klick here for the first "Cute Sunday Things" post).

best friends

are people you don't need to talk to every single day, you don't need to talk to each other for weeks, but when you do, it's as if you'd never stopped talking.

Cute Story
There was a girl who was playing in the park when she saw a picture in the bush. She kept the photo, but forgot about it until she was married. Her husband asked, who is that little boy in her wallet. She answered: "My first love." Then her husband smiled and said: "I lost this picture when I was nine years old."

Piglet: "How do you spell love?"
Pooh: "You don't spell it, you feel it."

Life Is What Happens To You While You're Busy Making Other Plans / A Jar of Good Memories

Hallo meine Lieben!

Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."

Es gibt eine nette kleine Idee dazu: A jar of good memories.

♥ xoxo

Hello my dears! A blogpost in German? - Yes, you are right. I have decided to post in German as well, because it is easier. Nevertheless, I will write in English too.

2014 has started only a week ago - and you already ask yourself how the new year should or will turn out. From my point of view, you should not plan too much. Let life go its way - that is what life is about. There is a nice song-quote regarding this topic: "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." It describes the meaning of life very well.

An old year is over. Some moments were not as good as others, but what about capturing the good times. There is a nice idea: A jar of good memories. Write down a great and special moment you do not want to forget on a piece of paper, fold it and keep it in a jar, a box, wherever you want. With every passing wonderful moment your amount of papers grow. On New Year's Eve you open your jar - and remember the great memories.

What are your ideas to make great moments unforgettable?

Songs Teach Us About Life

How are you, my dears? Do you know that situation: You listen to a special song and, automatically, you begin to feel a certain way. Whether you feel happy, sad, angry, bored etc. music always brings you in a different or emphasizes your mood. Music is emotional, it transports feelings. However or especially because of that, we can learn a lot from the lyrics. Writing a song that inspirates or moves lots of people is an easy and also great way to spread a message.

Michael Jackson's songs "Earth Song", "Man In The Mirror", "Heal The World", especially "We Are The World" are kind of songs making people care more about the others, help each other, make the world a better place. In general, all Michael Jackson songs have an important message. Therefore, and, of course, also because of his amazing talent he is one of my absoultely favorite singers.

There's A Place In
Your Heart
And I Know That It Is Love
And This Place Could
Be Much
Brighter Than Tomorrow
And If You Really Try
You'll Find There's No Need
To Cry
In This Place You'll Feel
There's No Hurt Or Sorrow

There Are Ways
To Get There
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
Make A Better Place...

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race

-----------------------------------------

I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It's Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right
. . .
I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
. . .
I've Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They're Not
Alone?

-----------------------------------------

We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones to make a brighter day
So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

So, keep your eyes open for the people around you, for everyone. If we all help together, be there for each other, everyone can be able to have a great life. Focus on lyrics - they (can) have a deeper function than only entertaining.

Have a nice start into the new year!

Advent Calendar - December 4, 5 & 6

How are you my dears? Sorry for not posting the last few days, but I was very busy.

Something very upsetting happened last night: Nelson Mandela passed away. He did so many wonderful things for the world, for making it a better place and was a very important person in the Civil Rights Movement. Here are some of Mandela's great and inspiring words:

"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear."

"It always seems impossible until it's done."

"We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right."

"Let there be work, bread, water and salt for all."

R.I.P. Nelson Mandela - you will never be forgotten

----------------------------------

Today is a special day in some countries: "St Nicholas' Day" if you translate it in English. The children get small presents. Usually, they clean their boots the night before, place them in front of the door and St Nicholas will gift them something, but only if they behaved well during the last year.

For December 4, 5 and 6 I want to share some ideas for Christmas presents with you:

  • Music: You could create a list of songs you and another person share with each other, songs which make you remember great moments.
  • "You-Don't-Have-To"-Tokens: A great gift for your parents or other family members. You can write "You don't have to make the dishes" on one and then this person can give it to you and you will do the work.
  • Personal letters: Sounds very simple, but it has a huge effect. Just write down what you love about the other one, what he/she did for you etc. It just has to be nice and personal. Much better than everything bought. And isn't Christmas the time you spend with the ones you love and to let them know how much they mean to you?
These are only a few ideas - there is a lot more you could do.

What are your special tips for Christmas presents?

Advent Calendar - December 3

How are you my dears?

Today, I want to share a wonderful poem with you. It creates a peaceful and enchanting atmosphere - just as during Christmas time -  and is one of the most beautiful ones I have ever read. It is a German poem and, therefore, I will post the German version. Nevertheless, an English translation will be below. ;)

"Mondnacht"
Joseph Eichendorff (1837) - Romantik

Es war, als hätt' der Himmel
Die Erde still geküsst,
Dass sie im Blütenschimmer
Von ihm nun träumen müsst'.

Die Luft ging durch die Felder,
Die Ähren wogten sacht,
Es rauschten leis die Wälder,
So sternklar war die Nacht.

Und meine Seele spannte
Weit ihre Flügel aus,
Flog durch die stillen Lande,
Als flöge sie nach Haus.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Moonlit Night

It was like Heaven's glimmer
caressing Terra's skin,
that in Her blossoms' shimmer
She had to dream of Him.

The breeze was gently walking
through wheatfields near and far;
the woods were softly talking
so bright shone ev'ry star.

And, oh, my soul extended
its wings through skies to roam:
O'er quiet lands suspended,

my soul was flying home.

Such a wonderful poem - I absolutely love it.

What do you think about it? Do you like poems? If so, what are your favorite ones?

Advent Calendar - December 2

Today I want to share a wonderful inspirational video with you

Two young men decided to make a difference. They bought food and gave it to homeless people. See their reactions in this video:

"Make The Homeless Smile"

Seing how happy and thankful the people are for being noticed and how they react - it is very moving and emotional! It clearly shows that everyone is able to change the world, make it better, just by doing little things. Take a look at yourself: What about being nicer to your siblings? Helping others? Giving people walking by a smile? You can do it; everyone does. But we have to make our minds and hearts open to the world's problems in order to solve them.

"Give someone one of your smiles, it might be the only sunshine they see all day. It can change the world, maybe not the whole world, but their world."

What do you think about this video?

Quote of the Day (Life)

"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It goes on."
 - Robert Frost

So, no matter what is happening in your life right now, what you are going through - life will go on. Making it through rough times will only make you stronger. Keep focusing on the wonderful and great parts of life; believe in yourself. Better times will come. ♥

Never a failure, always a lesson

This quote is absolutely wonderful and I think that everyone should keep that in mind. We all make mistakes, regret chances we did not take, want to turn back time etc. But it is okay! We are human and humanity consits of not being perfect. If you take every failure as a lesson, you will be much happier, because you do not want to make the same mistake twice. We all remember giving a wrong answer in school. And when we were told the right one, we never forgot it.

On the other side, we should not judge others for their mistakes and not give them a second chance, because everyone deserves that, If they do not take it, it is fine. Then you will know how they really are and you can overthink your relationship. Or if they do not want to see their mistakes, it is the same here.

You do not need to be perfect - no one is. Do you know the Hannah Montana song "Nobody's perfect"? - It truly describes the whole thought:

"Everybody makes mistakes
Everybody has those days
[...]
Nobody's perfect

You live and you learn it
And if I mess it up sometimes
Nobody's perfect
[...]
Sometimes I fix things up
And they fall apart again
Nobody's perfect
I know I mix things up
But I always get it right in the end "

So, get up, keep that in mind, and life will get easier. Enjoy your life, be happy - and remember: Never a failure, always a lesson!

What do you think? What are your motivations?

The Definition of Beauty

L i f e - beauty

One question concerning everybody is what beauty means. First of all, one needs to define between inner and outer beauty.

Outer beauty is way more easier to define than inner beauty, because it is not such a complex topic as inner beauty. You can work on it by working out, eating healthy, but also by enjoying your life and accepting yourself and your body the way it is. However, everyone has a different definition of a beauty ideal and what is beautiful to one and what not.

Inner beauty is everyoneself's achievement: You need to accept yourself the way you are and always keep in mind that - no matter what others say - everyone is great the way he or she is. If you have realized that, everone can be happy with themself and others see that as well.

However, the media shows a different picture of beauty ideals. Does every girl has to look like a model? Are just models beautiful? Or other celebrities who have personal trainers, make-up artists etc. and are always styled perfectly?

The answer is NO!
Everyone is beautiful, no matter how much you weight, which size you have or how well your make-up is. Believe in yourself, in your inner beauty, and if you are beautiful on the inside, it will also influence your outside.

Say to yourself: I'm beautiful the way I am! My life is great! And everytime you look in the mirror - just focus on the parts you like best about yourself.

Here are some motivational quotes:

"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it."
 - Confucius

"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone...."
Sam Levenson

"I always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect - they are much more interesting."
- Marc Jacobs

What do you think about the beauty ideal the media shows us?

Carpe diem ♥

You all now that saying. Carpe diem. Seize the day.

I personally think, one can see it as a motivation to enjoy everyday and be happy and thankful to wake up every morning, knowing that today consists of 24 hours full of possibilities, chances, emotions and feelings. Believe in your dreams and in yourself.
We often worry about little things, but considering how great our lifes are, we do not really have the right to complain...
Keeping that in mind will help us all to make a difference. Make a change. Show the world how great you are and show yourself how great the world is. Open your eyes and I am sure you will see beauty in everything, especially in the little things.
